G-Dragon and T.O.P born to be hippies [NEWS]

Editor's note: In the ever changing showbiz, the expiry period of popularity is very short. You can be in the headlines today but tomorrow you might have already been replaced by the latecomers. However, no matter what ways they are heading to finally, the time when they are sparkling the most should be always remembered. Sina Korean Star News is here to lead you to find out their ways of success.

The weekly stars of this week are GD and TOP who came back as a unit group. They have become the 'big bang' in the music industry recently with their irresistible music power.Although we have been prepared already, we have still fallen for their charisma due to the happiness and sincerity that we can find in their music. GD and TOP do not like lecturing us with a long face, since for them, the golden period of life came and will pass fast, it would be better if we seize the days and enjoy our youth right now.

Play with the music as if there is no boundaryThese two men are the ones who have been growing with Rap and possess the aura of hip-hop. Ever since they were in their 10's, GD and TOP has been doing hip-hop music and in various performing occasions, they came into contact with veteran musicians so they seized the chances to learn from them. GD and TOP can understand each other in the field of making music, when they are growing, their music style has changed too- from the weapons of expressing their anger and dissatisfaction towards the society to the playfulness that they have in the music playground even though they are adults now. Whenever we listen to their music, we can be relaxed since their music is unique, outstanding and has the rallying points which are beyond comparison. Once we are enchanted, we can just follow them unconditionally. This powerful vigor can also explain why GD and TOP has been becoming more and more popular.

The album released by the united group has been out on 24/12 and it is filled by unique style which can far be ignored. 'High High' and 'Oh Yeah' combine electronica and hip hop which make two very melodic title songs and these two popular songs also make people from the old to the young feel high. They chose to film the MV of 'High High where GD and TOP were dressed like playboys and their playful looks were really hilarious too. With the featuring of Park Bom, ' Oh Yeah' is a even more easy-to-be-remembered song. According to Yang Hyun Seok, the president of YGE, they will have 5 plugged songs from this album so we can expect GD and TOP will bring us more surprised consistently in the near future. In this album, not only is the music impressive but the lyrics are also the highlights. There are lots of critics comment that the lyrics are so real which are just like their biography. It is said that when these two men came to discuss about their united activities, the first thing came into their minds were lyrics. It was their original intention to write only their stories into the lyrics. YGE has also paid extra attention to the promotion of this album since a very grand world premiere was held a week before their album was released, Yang Hyun Seok had also come to show his support to his boys and prised them a lot afterwards.

In the past, GD regarded being a singer as his career so he would separate what he did on the stage and behind the screen very clearly but such detachment has become less obvious now. However, sometimes, he would feel scared because of it since he is afraid that others would peep into his private life. For they have been working so hard these days, dark circles has been spotted under GD's eyes already. Even though Yang Hyun Seok has already ordered they have to decrease their workload, their jobs are still coming non-stopped.

GD's transformation from the hip- hop boy in the past
Ever since they were debuted, BIGBANG has been staying active continuously so the members do not have time to ponder about more profound things. They get such chances in the past two years. After GD finished promoting his solo album, he was granted a long vacation. During his holiday, he reflected about the past and also thought about the future which enabled him to become more mature in dealing with people and making music. The president has told them they had to look at issues from the perspectives of others so nowadays, the performer on the stage, GD is not the youngster who liked to grumble every now and then but a mature youth who treat every minor issue with a serious attitude.

GD was picked by Yang Hyun Seok when he was studying in primary school for he had showed great music talent and ever since then, GD has regarded producing music as his greatest responsibility in life. 'Lie' established the status of his being a superb music producer and then people has been seeing him as one of the latecomers who is very talented. Although he has been suspected to plagiarize others' music several times, he has been insisting his principle of not responding since he believes that time can tell who holds the truth. 'Heartbreaker' is the turning point of his life for the once so sunny young boy has gradually transformed into a slightly devil man.

TOP acts out his own self
Contrary to his wild look, TOP has a delicate heart actually and he was the one who felt the most nervous on the stage too. He tried to act cool but that was only his disguise. For this time, the TOP we can see on the stage not only presents us an even outstanding appearance but he also can perform better on the stage. In these two years, TOP has been participating in TV dramas and film, he has also released his solo single. All of these trained his performance skills and strengthened him when he performs on the stage. He no longer waits for the response of his fans anxiously but now he knows how to lead the fans to taste the happiness of enjoying music. In the past, TOP was trying to act out someone on the stage though he also wanted to present his own self, he couldn't for he wanted his audience to enjoy his show more. How to harmonize the feelings of his and the fans has always been his first priority.

TOP and GD have times when they drink beer and share their feelings and they both agree that their present life is blissful yet lonely. In their early 20's, there are still lots of things which are difficult to them and the job of being an artist would also make them confused sometimes since they would doubt whether what they see are real or not. Right from the beginning, it was because they like Hip Hop, they joined YG and became a member of Bigbang. Unexpectedly, the door of acting has also been opened up for TOP later wards and even all of the dramas and film are big production. It is the chance which is yearned by many newcomers. TOP has lived up to our expectation and surprised all of us.

The comeback, which is near
As the top band in Korea music industry, BIGBANG has been focusing on the overseas activities in these two years and they rarely carried out their music activities locally. Even though every member has been active in the fields of music, acting and variety shows, fans still want to hear the music belongs to the whole BIGBANG. The comeback in the form of a united group- GD and TOP has been the pioneer for the whole team and they also let the fans taste what they have matured in these two years.

There are so many people who are curious about what kinds of music BIGBANG will present us after these two years' adventures. GD, as the team leader surely has a lot of expectation about Bigbang's future. Bigbang is not the kind of band who only love to pretend to be cool but in the future, they want to dedicate more warm music to us and lead us to discover the treasures of life through their music.

What are YG, SM and JYP aiming for? [NEWS]

Even during the new year, SM, YG, and JYP are competing against each other to try new things for their artists. Being called the Big 3, all three companies are approaching dramas, concerts, rookie singers and many more very aggressively. The entertainment that went through the most change is JYP. With J. Tune soon changing its name to JYP, Park Jin Young and Miss A have changed their company. Although JYP and J. Tune were partners, they have joined together as one company. With the stocks being unstable in J. Tune, many people are curious as to how both companies will go about this issue.

Many are also wondering the international debut of 2 P.M. and Miss A. 2 P.M. and Sony Music have joined hands and are waiting for their debut in Japan while Miss A is trying to debut in China with the help of 2 Chinese members. The representative of JYP Entertainment said, “The debut of girl groups in Japan was a big issue last year and 2 P.M. will continue on with this issue as they debut in Japan.”

JYP is also going for dramas. JYP and Key East are both producing the music drama, Dream High with Suzy, Taecyeon, Wooyoung and Park Jin Young as the cast members. The help of idol stars, it will have a big affect in the drama this year.

Helping rookie groups is another thing the entertainments are aiming for. With a strong visual, many trainees are getting ready to debut this year.

After 2NE1, YG has announced that they are looking for rookies. YG has been concentrating on Se7en, Gummy, Big Bang and 2NE1 for a while and they’ve made a decision to take in new rookies.

Because the qualification of taking in trainees is very high, there has been zero trainees within the YG Entertainment and they are currently trying to find new rookies. Yang Hyun Seok said,
“I’m planning on opening the doors to YG a bit wider and ever since YG moved to a new building, we’ve been kind of hiding ourselves from others. We have enough practice rooms and teachers. We picked 15 trainees right now but we’re planning on picking more in the future.
YG is also focusing on the activities of Big Bang and 2NE1 as they are getting ready for their promotions in Japan. Big Bang is currently getting ready for activities in Korea while 2NE1′s promotions are being pushed back. With a long of activities planned this year, they’re planning on focusing their attention on Japanese activities. Since 2NE1 is planning on accepting Avex‘s offer, many are wondering how this girl group will affect the music industry in Japan.

Yang Hyun Seok also said, “Big Bang is very popular right now but comparing that to their results, it was disappointing. They will be focusing more than ever and will start their promotions soon.”

SM if focusing on the management of their artists but at the same time they’re planning new things for being on dramas and hold concerts. A representative of SM said, “During the new year, along with TVXQ and other artists, we’re trying to manage as many activities as we can and we’re also planning on picking new rookies soon.” TVXQ have officially started their promotion in both Korean and Japan while SHINee have partnered with EMI and are awaiting their debut in Japan. Girls’ Generation and Super Junior have already gained popularity in Japan and in other asian countries that they have been called the Global Stars.

SM is also focusing on holding concerts for the fans. A representative said,
“Last year, we held the SM Town Live in Los Angeles and the tickets were sold out and SHINee haven’t debuted in Japan yet and they’ve already stood on stage in Japan. We will continue holding concerts and will possibly change the ticket price, having an affect on the SM portfolio.”
He also said, “We’re also looking out to produce dramas as well.”

2011: Year of Male Idol Duos and Boy Groups? [NEWS

BOYBAND IDOL

It's safe to say that 2010 was dominated by girl groups and female solo singers. Well, that trend may be coming to an end this 2011.

Already, two duos have been sweeping the music charts and music shows with their incomparable popularity: GD&TOP and TVXQ. GD&TOP are members of what's arguably one of the most popular boy groups in Korean music -- Big Bang. The only group that has been able to rival Big Bang at the time of their peak was maybe TVXQ. After the trio JYJ split off as their own entity, the two remaining members are pushing on as a duo now. Perfect timing to give GD&TOP a little friendly competition!

On top of that, the six-membered group BEAST has been split into three duos: Yoseop & Junhyung with the song "Thanks To", Hyunseung & Kikwang with the song "Let It Snow", and Doojoon & Dongwoon with the song "When The Door Shuts".

In response to this, entertainment related sources from SM Entertainment and YG Entertainment have said that there are already talks that perhaps male duos are the next big thing in KPOP.

So what is the power behind the concept of just two male idol stars? BEAST representatives explained, "There are limits to showing off the talents of all the members when promoting as a six-membered group. When performing as a two-membered team, there's more room to show off each of the members' vocal abilities and unique sound. These may not be songs from their [BEAST's] official album, but through their promotions as duos, the fans have been able to get a taste of what each member brings. Also, duet performances can offer something different musically compared to solo performances."

There are some downsides to duos though. Dance and choreography don't look as visually pleasing compared to larger group performances. Also, because the spotlight needs to be shared, it's not as focused and powerful as solo performances.

Only time will tell whether the positive points will overpower the negative points!

2011 welcomes a battle of the boy groups

An early forecast reveals that the beginning of 2011 will be marked with an influx of girl group debuts, but with the return of various male groups looming near, fans will get their full doses of testosterone in the near future as well.

Rookies including MBLAQ, Teen Top and Infinite have been generating lots of chatter and interest with their ongoing comebacks this month.

MBLAQ’s title track “Cry” was released just two days ago and has already secured high rankings on various charts including those of Mnet and Bugs. Their full album “BLAQ Style” will be released on the 10th with a live comeback on the 13th.

Teen Top, whose members got kpop fans doing double takes with their silver hair concept, released a MV teaser today for their comeback track ”Transform.” Due to member Niel’s injury, the group has pushed back their live comeback to the 13th.

Finally, Infinite will be returning with their second six-track mini-album “Evolution,” with concept photos and preview videos attracting much attention. Their comeback showcase is schedule to take place in just a few hours today at Seouls’ CGV.

On the other end, news of the impending returns of TVXQ and Big Bang, arguably the two largest male groups of the Korean music scene in recent years, has already been dominating headlines in regards to their comeback albums. TVXQ and Big Bang’s last albums, “Mirotic” and “Remember”, were released in September and November 2008 respectively, so these returns mark the end of two year hiatuses for both groups.

The special edition of TVXQ’s “Why (Keep Your Head Down)” album has been released today with the HoMin duo gearing up for a comeback on Music Bank on January 7, followed by appearances on Music Core, Inkigayo and possibly M! Countdown due to reconciliations between SME and Mnet. Choreographed by Rino Nakasone of the Beat Freaks, “Why (Keep Your Head Down)” also caught the attention of American gossip blogger Perez Hilton.

Big Bang’s sub-unit duo GD&TOP made waves with the release of “High High,” “Oh Yeah” and “Knock Out” last month, complete with the most expensive comeback stage in Mnet M. Countdown’s history. After Japanese promotion plans were delayed, it was also announced that GD&TOP will have a second round of promotions for “Don’t Go Home.” Furthermore, Big Bang’s maknae Seungri will be releasing a mini-album on January 13, and the entire group will be making a full comeback soon thereafter.

Unsurprisingly, TVXQ & Big Bang’s returns are being met with overwhelming receptions — “Keep Your Head Down” recorded massive sales immediately after release, and GD&TOP enjoyed 200,000 pre-orders for their album.

Like the 2009 domination of countless new girl groups including 2NE1, 4minute, f(x) and After School , it looks like we’ll be seeing a lot of female debuts this year, but will 2011 mark the return of a boy group craze as well?

GD&TOP choose which Big Bang members have the most and least interest in women [NEWS]

During a recent interview, Big Bang’s G-Dragon and T.O.P were asked to pick members who had the most and least interest in women lately.

For the member who showed the most interest in the ladies lately, G-Dragon answered with a laugh, “All of them have interest in women, but Taeyang especially has been showing a lot of interest after singing ‘I Need A Girl.‘”

Taeyang’s well known in the Big Bang fandom to be shy and innocent, which contrasts with the sexy choreography he tends to perform on stage with girls. G-Dragon continued, “It feels like Taeyang has finally opened his eyes to the world of women. He never even used to go to locations where girls were present, but now he fits in well and is even in the center of discussion when conversing with them. It makes me feel so proud seeing him chat with girls.”

Meanwhile, T.O.P was asked to choose a member with the least interest, and he decided upon Seungri. He reasoned, “It feels like Seungri has lost interest in them since he’s well aware of his career as a celebrity.”

The duo were then asked about their ideal women, in which G-Dragon replied, “Someone that makes me feel comfortable upon first sight.”

T.O.P answered, “A wise woman that handles herself well enough to express her unique charms.”
