Taeyang in the US for 2 weeks + hanging out with Teddy and Aimee [NEWS

On January 9th, YG Entertainment told OSEN:

“On the 8th, Big Bang’s Taeyang left for America through Incheon Airport. He will be staying there for around two weeks.”

With Big Bang’s comeback scheduled for February, why did Taeyang suddenly take a trip to America?

“It wasn’t a personal reason, but it was for him to receive dance lessons. In order to show an upgraded performance, he went to meet with famous choreographers.

The members are having a short rest before their upcoming album release, but Taeyang volunteered to receive dancing lessons instead. His eagerness is outstanding.”

With the increasing anticipation from fans and music industry associates alike, it was reported that the members are throwing in as much passion and dedication as they can into their album preparations. G-Dragon told OSEN in a recent interview:

“As much as the fans have been waiting, we will come out with a lot prepared and give them great songs. We’ll completely fill the album with good songs and show songs that express our various tastes and personalities.”

T.O.P also expressed:

“Aren’t people saying that these days, the popular music industry is a generation of three week albums? No matter how much effort you put in, if it passes three weeks, there is no opportunity left to show what you have to your fans. Big Bang will surpass those boundaries and will satisfy everyone’s anticipation by going all-in on our album production.”

Daesung and Hyunseung got mad at Seungri because of? [NEWS]

At SBS Night After Night's competition corner, G-Dragon and T.O.P appeared on the “court seats” to go against the comments, “I am not a cold city person” vs. “I am not the type of person who acts cool."

At the recording, T.O.P revealed a situation when Daesung and Hyunseung were mad at Seungri before when the five members of Big Bang and the current BEAST member Jang Hyunseung shared dorms.

During their trainee days, the six people used to go eat samgeupsal (Korean bacon) after practice and Daesung and Hyunseung were the members that always had to flip the meat as it cooked. However, on one day, Daesung and Hyunseung had started to question why they were always the one to cook the meat while the youngest Seungri continued to eat. So after holding it in for several times, Daesung and Hyunseung had made up their mind to complain to Seungri. But after an unexpected word from Seungri, Daesung and Hyunseung’s plan turned into ashes.

Also, a problem arose that night. When everyone else had returned home, Hyunseung and Seungri ended up coming back to the dorm very late. While T.O.P, Jiyong, and Taeyang were waiting in worry, Seungri had walked in acting drunk, making the recording studio go wild with laughter.

The truth behind Seungri, Daesung, and Hyunseung’s samgeupsal situation will be revealed on January 10th at 11:15 KST on SBS .

GD&TOP, “We want to break the prejudice on idols” [NEWS]

Unit, G-Dragon and TOP (GD&TOP) of group, Big Bang is now on the stage, breaking the concept of Korean idols.

Instead of melting the hearts of the public sweetly with tender music in the end of the year, the music they chose is the strong genre, which mixed electronica and hip hop properly.

G-Dragon and TOP who are easing their thirst for music as a unit, didn’t release a mini album, but instead they released the full album which evokes the desire to “dissect” it even from the album cover. Moreover, they are planning to meet the public with 5 songs from it. Starting with “High High”, “Oh Yeah”, and “Knock Out”. They’ll promote “Don’t Go Home” and “Baby Goodnight” from the middle of January.

Music industry usually puts a planning ability before the product itself, but as for Big Bang members, each member gets to plan out what they want or like and choose their own concepts. They are the idols who rock the stage, doing the music they like and pursue to satisfy their curiosity. Performing on many different stages is where their confidence show.

- Was the response as a unit different from being Big Bang?
GD: I’m glad that not only Big Bang fans, but also a lot of people and listeners who have mania taste in music seem to like it and approve it. This unit’s song will affect Big Bang’s next album for the better.

- This unit is very different from general domestic idols in music and concepts.
GD: We are different from the concept of idols that Korea have thought. If you watch today’s idols, you’ll see although they are called as “idols”, they are very good and very professional. I think it’s not just us, but also the other idols are breaking the rules of the concept called idol in the aspects of music. And I’m glad they do. I think the solid concept of Korean idol is disappearing and we are improving. If people were used to watching the idols singing, standing together, or doing group dances, I think they consider this unit more free on the stages compared to that.

- This unit’s music feels more like “doing what they like to do” instead of popularity. I think you are much pleased with it.
TOP: It’s just the two of us doing. So instead of worrying how we can make a lot of people like our music, we did the music we actually like. I think that makes us more confident. There are people who have prejudices on idols and we have the “instinct that want to break” those things. We have our greed.

- Are you satisfied with the response?
GD: We are very pleased till now and we are working hard on every single stage. Above all things, it’s so interesting to have the stages freely and to monitor those. As the development of internet, we check fans’ responses and also learn from them. I feel like I’m improving a lot myself.

- The three major terrestrial broadcasting stations banned “Knock Out”, requesting to MBC for a retrial of “Don’t Go Home”, I think you are a bit depressed.
GD: Not depressed, but it’s just sad that we prepared our best and they are not accepting us. It’s like we have this so much presents to give and we are so willing to perform you exciting stages, but it’s sad that we can’t give you those presents because of those broadcasting bans.

- It’s very a stressing job. How do you ease that?
TOP: Two of us, with music.

- Your job is music and you relieve your stress with music?
TOP: The dream of Big Bang members’ have always been music and as our dream comes true, the music is always with us. It’s a job we need to pour a lot of emotions, so there are some hardships in controlling our feelings in some days. Also we are all kind of sensitive. Emotional ups and downs. Music makes us strong at those kind of moments.

- There were much expectation when people heard two of bigbang members are performing as an unit
TOP: I think there were a lot of people who were curious because the two of us are very characteristic and we both have very different tones and color. We wanted to give you the best interest by listening to our music.

- It seems you worked very hard on your MVs. Especially, “Knock Out” MV which released recently, was very interesting with all those new products of luxuries and fancy styles.
GD: It’s important to have details in music and we feel the importance of them more because they’re more known worldwide, not just in Korea. We think it’s all connected. People talk about our music, which makes others listening to our music, then they buy the album and go to concerts. So we work very hard on every single stage and so as on the MVs. We feel more responsibility because it’s showing to the world. It’s not like the old days.

- Maybe the next Big Bang album is more popular to the public than the unit.
GD: We, ourselves are very curious and looking forward to what 5 of the Big Bang members will be like. The reason why we are doing solo and unit performances, is because we want to express our own taste in music. So when we get back to as Big Bang, I think we have our responsibility to present you more like what people want and what they want to watch. I think it will contain much more feelings even though it’s an exciting music.

- Big Bang’s break was quite long. When you all come back, fans and many other people are expecting a lot.
GD: We’ll prepare many things and make you listen to great songs, as fans have waited for so long. (will Big Bang also do the triple title song strategy?) We, as a unit, had triple titles at first, but we promote 5 songs to perform in front of you with more stages. I think the title song itself doesn’t mean that much now. We’ll make our album full of great songs and that’s what we’ll perform. We’ll show you the various styles of the songs.
TOP: There are a lot of stages that can be shown, but we all say it’s the 3 week music days. (T/N: He means that No.1 music charts keep changing, longest is 3 weeks) We don’t have chances to show fans, no matter how hard we work, after about 3 weeks. But we’ll pass that limit and make ourselves “all-in” to working on Big Bang’s album. We’ll live up to your expectations as we come back in a long time. We’ll perform with pride.

- U.S. famous DJ, Diplo, who worked on “Knock Out” with you, said on his Facebook that he wants to work with you more.
TOP: It was really interesting and awesome to work with him. I think we can show you another surprising collaboration soon. It’s on the progress. We’ll let you hear many fresh and good ones.

- Maybe you can pick the charms from each other?
GD: TOP has very attractive eyes. There are many good looking eyes, but TOP has something deep in that.
TOP: Jiyong is just attractive himself.

- We are also looking forward to your members’ styles with your music. When will you change your hair style?
GD: I like to change my hair style, but I have no idea what perm I did because I kept changing and changing. Maybe I’ll change it again when my hair starts falling out. *laughs* I want to show you a lot of things, but I did everything that I wanted to do in this unit, so there are not many things left to show you. haha.
TOP: Actually my hair is falling out right now because I bleached my hair too many times. I heard this hair color is not an easy one to have, especially for Asians. I kept bleaching and at last my head was bleeding.
GD: Above all, I think the other three members will be very awesome. I myself is looking forward to it.

According to Yang Hyun Seok, the president of YGE, they will have 5 plugged songs from this album so we can expect GD and TOP will bring us more surprised consistently in the near future. In their early 20's, there are still lots of things which are difficult to them and the job of being an artist would also make them confused sometimes since they would doubt whether what they see are real or not. Right from the beginning, it was because they like Hip Hop, they joined YG and became a member of Bigbang. What are YG, SM and JYP aiming for? [NEWS]

Even during the new year, SM, YG, and JYP are competing against each other to try new things for their artists. After 2NE1, YG has announced that they are looking for rookies. YG has been concentrating on Se7en, Gummy, Big Bang and 2NE1 for a while and they’ve made a decision to take in new rookies.

Because the qualification of taking in trainees is very high, there has been zero trainees within the YG Entertainment and they are currently trying to find new rookies. Yang Hyun Seok said,

“I’m planning on opening the doors to YG a bit wider and ever since YG moved to a new building, we’ve been kind of hiding ourselves from others. We have enough practice rooms and teachers. We picked 15 trainees right now but we’re planning on picking more in the future.”

YG is also focusing on the activities of Big Bang and 2NE1 as they are getting ready for their promotions in Japan. Big Bang is currently getting ready for activities in Korea while 2NE1′s promotions are being pushed back. With a long of activities planned this year, they’re planning on focusing their attention on Japanese activities. Since 2NE1 is planning on accepting Avex‘s offer, many are wondering how this girl group will affect the music industry in Japan.

Yang Hyun Seok also said, “Big Bang is very popular right now but comparing that to their results, it was disappointing. They will be focusing more than ever and will start their promotions soon.”

SM if focusing on the management of their artists but at the same time they’re planning new things for being on dramas and hold concerts. A representative of SM said, “During the new year, along with TVXQ and other artists, we’re trying to manage as many activities as we can and we’re also planning on picking new rookies soon.” TVXQ have officially started their promotion in both Korean and Japan while SHINee have partnered with EMI and are awaiting their debut in Japan. Girls’ Generation and Super Junior have already gained popularity in Japan and in other asian countries that they have been called the Global Stars.

SM is also focusing on holding concerts for the fans. A representative said,

“Last year, we held the SM Town Live in Los Angeles and the tickets were sold out and SHINee haven’t debuted in Japan yet and they’ve already stood on stage in Japan. We will continue holding concerts and will possibly change the ticket price, having an affect on the SM portfolio.”

He also said, “We’re also looking out to produce dramas as well.”

2011: Year of Male Idol Duos and Boy Groups? [NEWS

It's safe to say that 2010 was dominated by girl groups and female solo singers. Well, that trend may be coming to an end this 2011.

Already, two duos have been sweeping the music charts and music shows with their incomparable popularity: GD&TOP and TVXQ. GD&TOP are members of what's arguably one of the most popular boy groups in Korean music -- Big Bang. The only group that has been able to rival Big Bang at the time of their peak was maybe TVXQ. After the trio JYJ split off as their own entity, the two remaining members are pushing on as a duo now. Perfect timing to give GD&TOP a little friendly competition!

On top of that, the six-membered group BEAST has been split into three duos: Yoseop & Junhyung with the song "Thanks To", Hyunseung & Kikwang with the song "Let It Snow", and Doojoon & Dongwoon with the song "When The Door Shuts".

In response to this, entertainment related sources from SM Entertainment and YG Entertainment have said that there are already talks that perhaps male duos are the next big thing in KPOP.

So what is the power behind the concept of just two male idol stars? BEAST representatives explained, "There are limits to showing off the talents of all the members when promoting as a six-membered group. When performing as a two-membered team, there's more room to show off each of the members' vocal abilities and unique sound. These may not be songs from their [BEAST's] official album, but through their promotions as duos, the fans have been able to get a taste of what each member brings. Also, duet performances can offer something different musically compared to solo performances."

There are some downsides to duos though. Dance and choreography don't look as visually pleasing compared to larger group performances. Also, because the spotlight needs to be shared, it's not as focused and powerful as solo performances.

Only time will tell whether the positive points will overpower the negative points!

2011 welcomes a battle of the boy groups

An early forecast reveals that the beginning of 2011 will be marked with an influx of girl group debuts, but with the return of various male groups looming near, fans will get their full doses of testosterone in the near future as well.

Rookies including MBLAQ, Teen Top and Infinite have been generating lots of chatter and interest with their ongoing comebacks this month.

MBLAQ’s title track “Cry” was released just two days ago and has already secured high rankings on various charts including those of Mnet and Bugs. Their full album “BLAQ Style” will be released on the 10th with a live comeback on the 13th.

Teen Top, whose members got kpop fans doing double takes with their silver hair concept, released a MV teaser today for their comeback track ”Transform.” Due to member Niel’s injury, the group has pushed back their live comeback to the 13th.

Finally, Infinite will be returning with their second six-track mini-album “Evolution,” with concept photos and preview videos attracting much attention. Their comeback showcase is schedule to take place in just a few hours today at Seouls’ CGV.

On the other end, news of the impending returns of TVXQ and Big Bang, arguably the two largest male groups of the Korean music scene in recent years, has already been dominating headlines in regards to their comeback albums. TVXQ and Big Bang’s last albums, “Mirotic” and “Remember”, were released in September and November 2008 respectively, so these returns mark the end of two year hiatuses for both groups.

The special edition of TVXQ’s “Why (Keep Your Head Down)” album has been released today with the HoMin duo gearing up for a comeback on Music Bank on January 7, followed by appearances on Music Core, Inkigayo and possibly M! Countdown due to reconciliations between SME and Mnet. Choreographed by Rino Nakasone of the Beat Freaks, “Why (Keep Your Head Down)” also caught the attention of American gossip blogger Perez Hilton.

Big Bang’s sub-unit duo GD&TOP made waves with the release of “High High,” “Oh Yeah” and “Knock Out” last month, complete with the most expensive comeback stage in Mnet M. Countdown’s history. After Japanese promotion plans were delayed, it was also announced that GD&TOP will have a second round of promotions for “Don’t Go Home.” Furthermore, Big Bang’s maknae Seungri will be releasing a mini-album on January 13, and the entire group will be making a full comeback soon thereafter.

Unsurprisingly, TVXQ & Big Bang’s returns are being met with overwhelming receptions — “Keep Your Head Down” recorded massive sales immediately after release, and GD&TOP enjoyed 200,000 pre-orders for their album.

Like the 2009 domination of countless new girl groups including 2NE1, 4minute, f(x) and After School , it looks like we’ll be seeing a lot of female debuts this year, but will 2011 mark the return of a boy group craze as well?
